Ransomware Attack Contained for a CII With an Estimated USD 10 million in Losses Quantified.
e-Crime Bureau was contracted to investigate and respond to a ransomware attack on a national power distribution agency. The incident, which was widely reported in the media, crippled some specific but critical digital systems of the power distribution company. This affected a segment of the population, as they were unable to access power. The Bureau worked closely with state agencies to mitigate the attack. We also conducted loss quantification of the incident, successfully estimating the total losses from the attack to be equivalent to USD 10 million.

Digital Forensics Lab Established for a National Law Enforcement Agency
The Bureau established a national digital forensics laboratory for a state law enforcement agency to facilitate the investigations of cyber-enabled crimes. The project also involved training and professional certifications of investigative officers and forensics analysts. The project also developed and implemented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in accordance with criminal justice requirements and standards (INTERPOL guidelines, Council of Europe guide on electronic evidence, etc.). This project was funded by an international development partner.
Cybersecurity Infrastructure Established for a Designated CII Institution
The project developed a cybersecurity framework that complied with the country’s CII requirements as well as international benchmarks (ISO certifications). The project, which involved multiple partners, included the deployment of a Security Monitoring System (SOC), establishment of a Digital Forensics Lab, establishment of an infosec unit and training/capacity building on cybersecurity across this designated critical information infrastructure agency with more than 7,000 employees.

Cybersecurity Capacity Building Project Delivered for a National Immigration Agency
The project, funded by an international development partner, was designed to strengthen the country’s border and migration management. The project involved a cybersecurity and digital forensics capacity skills gap assessment as well as the design and delivery of a training programme for officials across multiple locations of the country. Professional certification programmes were also delivered to selected technical officers of the agency as part of the project, achieving a 100% pass rate among those who took the professional certification programme.
Incident Response Intervention for Financial Institution Saved USD 3 million From a Cyberattack
The Bureau supported a multinational bank to forestall a widespread cybersecurity attack which targeted the core banking platform and electronic payment channels. The initial incident report identified unauthorised transactions of huge sums, with the incident response interventions leading to the prevention of losses of the equivalent of USD 3 million to cyber attackers. Subsequently, the Bureau provided cybersecurity mitigation and capacity-building support to the financial institution.
